Getting tubal ligation after birth?

me and hubby have been talking and we both agree we only want one child. ill be 29 when i have our child its not due till october but nothing wrong with planning since our child was unplanned hooray for protection not working.finacially we will barely beable to afford one child and health wise for me i cannot handle taking care of 2 kids. im thinking of getting my tubes handled while im in the hospital for labor...is it painful doing it that close to having a baby? and is this something i can go through my obgyn for since my obgyns office is also part of the hospital system where i will be giving birth. and according to what i have read even if you are going to feed it is still safe to get this done?
