Is a toy or bone good for dogs if they are home alone?

I leave my dog at home in the kennel while I'm at work. I feel bad because I don't give him toys or raw hide bones to play with. He sometimes chokes on rawhides when they get too long and soggy, and he chews the toys and don't want him to choke on that also. What would you suggest a good bone or toy to leave with him?
